NSFA SAP League: An exciting new era for football development on the North Shore of Sydney.
At the July 2019 NSFA President’s Workshop, NSFA and Northern Tigers Technical Director Jason Eagar – supported by Football NSW Technical Director Warren Grieve – announced the implementation of the NSFA SAP League for the 2020 season. SAP refers to Skill Acquisition Phase, the stage of a young footballer’s development between the ages of 8 to 12.
The goal of NSFA SAP is to improve development opportunities for players and coaches within our local football clubs, while also underpinning the Northern Tigers SAP and the NSFA Super League and Diamond League competitions.
Following the Presidents Workshop, clubs were invited to apply for a licence to enter teams into the NSFA SAP League for the 2020 season. NSFA can confirm the following successful applicants:
Berowra FC, Chatswood Rangers, Hornsby Heights FC, Kissing Point FC, Lane Cove FC, Lindfield FC, Mount Colah FC, Northbridge FC, North Sydney United, St Ives FC, Turramurra United, West Pymble FC.
These clubs will enter teams in the Under 8, Under 9, Under 10 and Under 11 age groups, with North Sydney, Lindfield and Northbridge entering two NSFA SAP teams per age group. All other clubs will have one NSFA SAP team per age group, creating a 15-team league with 15 match days and two gala days. Each club has committed to appointing a Technical Director specifically for their NSFA SAP program.
Talented players within the NSFA SAP League can be invited to join the Northern Tigers Development Squads, which will run on Friday afternoons during Terms 1, 2 and 3 of 2020.
Clubs are permitted to commence trials for the NSFA SAP League teams after November 2, 2019. Upon registering for trials, players/parents can request a breakdown of a club’s SAP League registration fees (using a template supplied by NSFA) to ensure full transparency of costs associated with the program.
The NSFA SAP League will be managed by Jason Eagar, and further supports the strategic objectives of the NSFA in providing professionally run development pathways for aspirational NSFA footballers.
For more information on upcoming trials, please contact your local NSFA SAP League club.
