A local boy had a dream to become a champion football player.
Robbie started his football career playing for Mount Colah Football Club, known back then as Mount Colah Soccer Club.
It wasn’t too long before his talent was noticed and Robbie was granted a scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport Football Program. Robbie’s graduation opened the door for his first opportunity to play for Australia when Robbie was selected in the Australia U20 side in the 1985 FIFA World Youth Championship finals. This was the start of Robbie’s fourteen years representing Australia.
Robbie had a long career as a Socceroo – 1990 to 1998, representing Australia on the world stage.
As well as being a well known identity representing Australia, Robbie was also well known in the national football competition. Robbie’s eighteen year national football career would include some of the top clubs and teams in Australia.
After his football playing career, Robbie became a well known and respected football coach, which included a nine year stint as assistant coach for the Matildas and Socceroos.
