Galaxy win’s its first Football NSW Champion of Champions Grand Final. W35A has become the only NSFA Women’s team to win two CoC titles in NSFA. W35A has twice become the number 1 Over 30 Women Community Football team in NSW.

The threatened rain had fallen since the morning The ground was holding up well. The Ladies were a bit nervous before the game.

They were playing on VSP 1, the same field where in 2017 they won against arch rival Wakehurst 2-0 in the Grand Final. Could they do it again? Tif Vibert scored both of W35A’s goals in 2017. Would Tif score again today? When they won in 2017 they became the first team to win a CoC Women’s tournament for NSFA. If they won today they would be one of the best, or maybe the most successful Women’s team in NSFA’s 60 odd year history!

To add to the pressure they were on the precipice of achieving Galaxy’s first CoC title. Galaxy’s first full competition year and we have a team vying to be number 1 in NSW!Field 1 is grass and has a huge stand. It was jammed pack with supporters from both Clubs.

At times the rain was pouring so hard the seating was getting wet under cover. It got so dark and gloomy they turned on the ground lights!

.

Regardless of the rain, we all cheered as the game progressed. We watched the players slosh through the puddles, the water spray as they ran, the ball going “splat” and dramatically show down, wondered if the players noticed they were totally soaked as they fought with everything they had to bring the title home for Galaxy and their family and friends.Check out the Northern Galaxy Facebook.

O30 Women

Northern Galaxy 4 vs Loftus Yarrawarrah Rovers FC 0

Northern Galaxy have become the best Over 30 Women team in the state with an impressive performance to defeat Loftus Yarrawarrah Rovers FC

A minute in, Shoesmith did well to outpace the Rovers defence and get in behind, but her left-footed shot was straight into the goalkeeper’s arms.

In the 16th minute, Fiona Keogh played through Janine Cunningham to present the Rovers with a good chance, but the ball held up on the drenched surface and they couldn’t make the most of the opportunity.

Galaxy found the opening goal in the 38th minute.

Hannah-Rui Shoesmith won back the ball with a good tackle before putting in a dangerous cross to the area.

The ball was spilled and found Clare Rienits, who made no mistake in finishing to give Galaxy the first goal of the game.

In the 61st minute, the Rovers looked to reply as Marisa Hair stole in behind, but some proactive goalkeeping from Bronwyn Kershaw denied an equaliser.

Two minutes later, Galaxy won themselves a penalty off a handball.

Hannah-Rubi Shoesmith stepped up and converted with a good shot to the left of the goalkeeper to double her sides advantage.

Galaxy continued on a rampaging run, as they found another goal in the 66th minute, as a heavy deflection in a 50-50 challenge involving Tiffany Vibert saw the ball loop up and into the back of the net after a positive run from Hannah-Rubi Shoesmith. 

In the 75th minute, Northern Galaxy added another to their tally, as Clare Rienits converted a controlled effort past the opposition goalkeeper.

They held on well to their four-goal buffer and became the Champions of the Over 30’s Women’s trophy.
